The Great Arrow Debate

There appears to be some debate about the ethics of selling Iceblade Arrows on the AH. What a lot of people have been doing is buying stacks of 1000 arrows and breaking them up into stacks of 100 arrows, and then relisting each stack of 100 arrows at, or around the price of 1000. Due to the WOW AH UI one might mistake buying 1000 for 100 arrows. This would allow the poster to basically profit 1000%. Some are calling this unethical because it requires the buyer to be mislead into a purchase. Some say it is fine because the buyer should have known. Please note I've never sold an arrow, or any ammunitions.....until now.

I'm not really for or against misleading people on the auction house. I see this whole arrow debate as kind of a wash. It's no worse in my opinion then posting ice cold milk for 1g when the vendor sells it for a few silver or something. The buyer didn't know what was what, and because of this they are paying for it. I don't really care about the ethics involved as WoW is a game, and the bank alt selling the item is anonymous. I've also always used my main to post auctions, until today as well.

My plan was to see if this unethical arrow pricing is even worth it. I purchased one stack of 1000 ice blade arrows for 20g. Already on my AH there were people listing stacks of 100 for 20g. I split the arrows up and undercut everyone by a few silver. I waited.

About 12 hours later there were no purchases. Undercutters had gotten the best of the market and stacks of 100 arrows were selling for 5g. Still a good profit, but not 1000%. I undercut again, and waited. 6 hours last my arrows are listed at 4g per stack of 100, and the lowest on the AH, and still no buyers.

It appears people have either become hip to the scam, or no one needs arrows. Is this scam even worth it? In my opinion .....no. I like to move things. I like to sell everything I post, everyday. I don't always sell 100%, but 0% of my postings sold isn't worth it. The only way I could see this working is if someone purchased 1000 arrows f0r 20g, and everyday they just kept posting their 100 stacks at 20g and no one undercut them. Eventually they would sell and the seller would be up 180g. 180g can be earned in much easier, less scrupulous ways. Lets not forget 180g can be earned be earned much quicker in other ways too. Who wants to keep posting the same auctions until they sell? Not me.
